28

Check out my giveaway on Head to Toe Chic and sign up to win!!

Sometimes when people ask me how old I am, my immediate response is 23.
I think its crazy that I have to stop and consider what my real age is.
It's like 23 must have been a really good year for me so I just stopped there mentally.

If you think about it, it wouldn't be a bad age to stop at.  You're no longer 21 so (hopefully) all your immaturity has been worked out of your system.  And you aren't 25 yet which is a quarter century old.  It's like you're 23, you're able to have fun, yet be serious at the same time.
It's allowed.

Today is my first full day being 28 years old.
I don't feel a whole lot different than I did yesterday when I was still 27 for a few hours.

I know a lot of people stress about being that much closer to 30 or about getting old in general.  My dad always says, "Getting old beats the alternative."

I have to agree with him.  I don't mind my age.  I don't mind that I'm closer to 30 than I was just 24 hours ago.  I sometimes wonder, what if birthday celebrations had never been celebrated?

What if we celebrated birth and then just continued to grow each year afterward without recognizing the day that took place 28 years ago as a significant change in our life?  Would we fear aging as much as we do (as a society)?  Would we worry about fine lines, wrinkles, and rolls that come with age?

Don't get me wrong, I love a good birthday celebration - I guess I just wonder what life would be like if there was no numerical advancement attached to it?

  1. I just turned 31 last month and I have to say that getting older isn't so bad...yet. Turning 30 was kind of fun actually! I feel like your 20s are for gaining some life experience, making mistakes, figuring things out. I'm hoping that everything I've learned so far will really help me settle down in my 30s. Happy birthday!

  2. I love this post. I'm not afraid of turning 30 either. I turned 28 in the summer and it's not as bad as others make it out to be. I wonder to about not having age attached to things. Things might be better if we didn't dwell on age so much!

  3. Happy Birthday!

I'm 35, and every day I'm thankful that I'm here. Aging is infinitely better than the alternative.

I love to celebrate the crap out of my birthday. I celebrate all month!

  6. I'd have to agree here, age is just a number to me.....I feel a lot older than a lot of people that I know that are are a lot older than me....life is what defines you, not your age. PS you look beautiful and Happy belated birthday friend!!! :)
