Easy Ways to Get Healthy

I'm writing this because when I put pen to paper I make things happen.  The more I share what I want to accomplish the more motivated I am to actually get it done.  And I'm thinking maybe, just maybe, I'm not the only one?

I'm going to start by swapping healthy choices for the food choices I was making before...

And taking care of my mind, body, and spirit.

I've signed up to participate in the 1800 minute challenge and I'm encouraging you to do the same!  Every little bit counts and just 30 minutes a day for 60 days will get you to 1800 minutes.  What have you got to lose?!

At this point I've met my first goal and I'm excited to order my new sneakers.  Reaching a goal is the best way to stay motivated.  Just when you think you've plateaued or you aren't losing fast enough, that little mini-goal will surprise you and keep you chomping at the fitness bit.

Willing Winter Away

I just want to say thank you for all the encouraging thoughts and wishes you sent my way Monday here and on Instagram.  The only way I can describe leaving your little one and going back to work is it's like leaving your heart somewhere and walking around without it.  It was hard, but I made it and I'm still here today and he is doing great.  

One of my friends said not to think of it as leaving him at daycare, but as allowing him the opportunity to spread his wings.  I like that.  I think I'll keep it.

I decided that today calls for bright and cheerful colors so I pulled together an outfit that would make anyone smile even if Old Man Winter is hating on NC and no one knows how to make it stop.

I'm going to will him away by wearing all the springy things in my closet and blinding him with color.

I took these pictures last Saturday when it actually felt like spring.  Today we're battling the last of the wintry weather mix *fingers crossed* for the season.  Has winter felt like forever to anyone else?

The sunshine and warmer temps have got me in a mood.  Not the same mood I was in all. winter. long.

It's like the little bit of vitamin D I got last weekend just soaked into my bones and made life better.  I'm looking forward to more long walks with the baby, flowers blooming alongside the road, sunshine into the late evening, the smell of charcoal grills firing up, bonfires, laughter from the kids on the playground, people running on the sidewalks, and cold drinks on the warm sand.

I know it's already officially here, but spring can't come soon enough.

Time to Get Serious

It's now time to get serious.

Let me make something clear: I am not doing this for swimsuit season.  I'm doing it for me.

I need a plan.  I need goals.  I need to map out what I'm going to do and start holding myself accountable in order to accomplish what I want to accomplish.

As I was eating lunch with my husband last week I suddenly, overwhelmingly felt full.
Not full of food...full of junk.  There comes a point where so much couch sitting makes you feel like a potato.  You know what I mean?

Here's what I don't need:
I don't need to start stepping on the scale every morning analyzing whether or not that ounce gained is just fluid or if I need to restrict calories.  I don't need to stand in front of the mirror after each shower pinching all the inches that weren't there 12 months ago.  I don't need to compare my post-partum body to others and I don't need to self-deprecate.

What I do need?
I need to make healthy choices, swapping out good for bad.  I need to allow myself some grace.  I need to eat a balanced diet with a lot more fruits and veggies than I'm getting right now.  I need to get outside.  I need winter to end!  I need Vitamin D.  I need short-term and long-term goals.  I need something to work toward.

I need to make an effort to take care of myself so that I can take care of my family.

I want...
To fit back into my favorite pair of jeans...even if they never fit the same way they did before
To run a 5k in April, a 10k by August, and a half marathon in 2014
To walk with CT every day the weather allows us to get outside
To eat REAL food and stop buying processed crap
To feel confident and beautiful

*Note* none of my goals are weight oriented - I want to feel good based on my insides not a number.

Date Night and Back to Work

When Justin came home for lunch last Friday he asked if I would like to go on a date to Flemmings that evening and have his parents watch CT.  Immediately, I said yes.  It's the first nice meal we've had since our trip to Charleston and I needed a night with my man.

We've both been so busy.  Being parents.  Being employees.  We needed a night to just be.

It was nice to have a night like that before today.  Today I go back to work for the first time in 14 weeks...the first time since becoming a mommy.  I think I'm mentally prepared for it, but you never really know until you know...ya know?

So if you could just send some good vibrations my way, I would love you forever.  Thanks!
