Waking up to the Lions
Last weekend we went camping in a tent with 2 dogs and a baby. We're those crazy people who like living on the edge. Did I mention we had no electricity or water? Yes, we were primitive camping. As primitive as you can be when there is a bath house within driving distance and a swimming pool open daily on the premises. We speculated how it would work and whether or not we would make it two nights. We even heard one of our neighboring camp teens say, "Why would you come camping with 2 dogs and a baby?" I started to wonder, too, when the first night we got in the tent and immediately the dogs laid at the bottom of the air mattress. Never mind the blanket I had set up for them beside the air mattress. So, yes, all 5 of us slept on a queen sized air mattress in a tent in the woods. You know what I say? Why not? It was actually quite cozy and really the perfect weekend for Carson's first camping trip. We woke up to the lion's roaring from the zoo just a mile away. We ate s'mores in the middle of the day and night. We cooked our food in the open flame. We hung out talking, listening, and creating memories with our little family. Last year on Memorial Day weekend we gathered our families and shared the news that we were expecting. This year we continued a tradition started by my family when I was about Carson's age and spent the weekend camping.
Hope you had a very Happy Memorial Day weekend. A special thank you to all our armed forces for giving us reason to celebrate and safety to do so how we choose. A shout out to my hero, Sgt. Justin Wrisley Garvey, who gave his life fighting for the country I love so much.
