I've seen so many cute American flag inspired tops around lately, but decided to create my own. I ended up getting my tank top out of the boys' section in Walmart for $2.97 and the paint markers were $6.47 so this entire project was less than $10. Not to mention, I have some plans for the paint markers for future projects.
I actually started this project thinking it would be a great tutorial. I took the time to create a pattern on wax paper, cut it out, and iron it on as shown here. Total bust. I did everything just like it said and my wax paper curled up from the heat of the iron and I decided it wasn't worth trying to uncurl. I crumpled it up (hurt my heart since it took an entire nap time to create and cut out the stupid stencil), and tossed it aside. Since the tank wasn't too pricey, I decided to go out on a ledge and....free hand it.
So if you want a tutorial here are the steps I followed (minus my epic attempt at a Pinterest fail):
1. Pick tank and paint markers. These worked awesome.
2. Center cardboard between layers of tank.
3. Start drawing your design!
Voila!
I haven't washed the tank yet so I'm not sure how the paint markers hold up to that, but I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Stop back by tomorrow to see a few different ways I've styled it for the 4th of July holiday.
