Teachers are the Best Coaches

Growing up there were 2 things I wanted to be: a mom and a teacher.

I remember teaching my stuffed animals and Cabbage Patch dolls countless lessons in my parents office.  My family has lots of teachers in it and I just really have always had a heart for kids.

If you think about it, teaching is probably one of the most important jobs in our country and possibly one of the least appreciated.  We don't just teach curriculum, we nurture, foster, and love on your babies while you aren't there to do it.  We shape lives!

As teachers, we have to have a growth mindset.  We are flexible.  We must think on our toes and react quickly and appropriately in all situations.  We must listen and give of ourselves even when we don't know if there is anything left to give.  We have to have energy on our more tired days.

I love teaching.  Love working with kids.  However, I hate all the testing and legislature around the classroom setting.  Some days I don't feel like I'm truly making a difference because I don't have time to between the rules and regulations set on me and the assessments I'm mandated to give.

This is where coaching comes in.  No matter what, every day I get to help, nurture, foster, and love on people through my coaching business.  This is why teachers make the best coaches - we already have all the skills and mindset needed to be successful and truly touch people's lives.  So many of the skills I use in my classroom, the things I LOVE doing that are now being limited within school walls due to lack of time - those are the things I get to use in my coaching business every. single. day.

With coaching, I get to teach a bigger audience.  And I get to teach them something that I am truly truly passionate about: health and fitness.  I also get to help women start and grow their businesses so that they can reach financial freedom which is a pretty awesome process to be part of.  I'm constantly learning and growing and stretching myself, which as a teacher, is one of my favorite things to do!

As a coach, I run monthly accountability groups (sort of like small groups in my classroom) where individuals are pushed and encouraged and supported through their journeys.  I teach other women (and some men) how to start, develop, build, and master their own personal businesses.  I'm a mentor just like in the classroom.  I'm a lifelong learner; every day I'm reading, writing, stretching myself and in turn I'm growing mentally, physically, and spiritually.

As a coach, I lesson plan - I create valuable and informative content for my monthly accountability groups. I help my challengers and my coaches set and reach for their goals.

As a coach, I communicate with my challengers and coaches on a daily basis.

As a coach, I collect data on my challengers' progress.  I analyze what is going well in my business and what needs to change in order to reach more people and be able to help more.  I monitor progress and help people make decisions about how to push themselves even further.

As a coach, I teach my coaches how to run successful businesses and help their teams do the same.

As a coach, I have a growth mindset as I continuously learn, grow, collaborate, and adapt so that I can be the best leader, role model, and human being possible.

Oh - and the best part?  Summers are off!  Just like in teaching.  ;)

If you're a teacher and you've been trying to figure out what you're doing this summer for a part-time job, don't get one!  I haven't worked in the summer since I got married 7 years ago and it's the BEST.  In the past that meant summers were tight, but now I don't have to worry about that; I'm living a passion, building a dream, and supporting my family.
